Wow, nothing like a little surprise treat for fantasy prospect junkies. Madison Bumgarner is getting the call tonight for the injured Tim Lincecum. Mad-Bum has been stellar in the minors this year with a minuscule 1.85 ERA and .211 BAA. Shockingly, the 20-year-old pup is still a little raw. While he has a sick mid-90s fastball, he’s still refining both his change and breaking stuff. That said, he already knows how to get hitters out because he has a lights-out pitching IQ and ability to work the plate like a crafty veteran. Seriously, imagine when this kid develops his entire arsenal? Some prospect experts are concerned because Mad-Bum’s K/9 has dropped at every level (5.80 at Double-A). Relax boys, the Ks will come, he was pitching at an advanced level for his age. Again, I point you to that .211 BAA. This 6’4”, 215 lb southpaw knows how to mess with hitters’ minds and leave them helpless. The best pitching prospect in the minors gets the call tonight against the powerful Padres’ bats; that’s sarcasm for those of you who are slow on the uptake. Don’t be afraid to take Mad-Bum out for a spin in daily leagues if you have him on your roster. Hey, it may only be one start, enjoy it. In keeper leagues, mortgage the farm for this future fantasy star.
Oh, one more thing, follow us on Twitter @MLBFP—I will be providing updates on the Mad-Bum start throughout the night. Remember, 10 pm Eastern start.
